This program is dedicated to creating a safe, dynamic, and inclusive learning environment for the children of Abobo, Côte d'Ivoire—an urban commune challenged by high crime rates, endemic poverty, and limited educational resources. Since the 2010–2011 political crisis, Abobo has remained stigmatized, with its youth particularly vulnerable to social exclusion and delinquency. Many children live in underdeveloped, slum-like conditions, and are underserved by an overburdened and failing education system.
To address these challenges, we aim to provide sustainable pathways for the children of Abobo to rise above their circumstances through quality education and life-enriching opportunities. We have formed a partnership with Ecole Primaire Sadjro Danho, a public school in Abobo, where we currently offer English classes twice a week. These classes, which focus on interactive learning methods, have garnered consistent participation from over 50 regular attendees and reach more than 300 children monthly—more than 75% of whom are girls.
Our next major step is establishing a multipurpose center that will serve as a hub for educational and creative development. This center, with a projected capacity of 150 children, will continue to offer English classes and introduce coding and robotics courses designed to foster creativity, teamwork, and technical skills. The center will include a library to promote literacy and independent learning, further supporting our students' academic journey. Already, we have received invaluable support from the Bridgeport Public Library in Connecticut, which has generously donated 150 brand-new books to this cause.
While the foundations of this program have been laid, we are still actively raising funds to make this vision a reality. The continued success of this initiative depends on securing additional resources to rent a space in the center of Abobo for the multipurpose center and properly equip it, ensuring it can fully support the diverse needs of the local youth.
